TRAINING THE TRAINERS!

2011 Has been an incredible year for all of us at Sierra Rescue to improve our skills and get more training ourselves as Instructors.  We are continually trying to learn and expand our skill levels and knowledge base.  The more we learn, the better Instructors we become.  Besides that, we are all passionate about learning new tricks, techniques and ideas to simplify and become better at all aspects of what we do.

Rick Weber recently sent me a quote by Steve Jobs that will stay with me for a long time.

“That’s been one of my mantras — focus and simplicity. Simple can be harder than complex: You have to work hard to get your thinking clean to make it simple. But it’s worth it in the end because once you get there, you can move mountains.” – Steve Jobs..

I am currently taking a Rigging for Rescue class in Yosemite, California.  Rigging for Rescue are folks that are not only experts in the field with years of hands on experience, but they  actually test  stuff and put out information on breaking strengths, equipment load limits, etc, .  It is a seminar designed for folks that have lots of experience coming into it; and I am working with folks from the USAF PJ’s and YOSAR primarily.  The experience level in the class of the other students is phenomenal.

Overall, it is one of the most useful and beneficial courses I have ever taken and has already, in the first three days, improved my knowledge about technical rope rescue immensely!  It has pushed me out of my comfort zone over the edge of 1000 foot drops relying on folks I just met and using new ways of rigging anchors, as well as using some new equipment and simplifying!

I am loving the course and appreciating the years of expertise that the two Instructors, Brandon and Kevin have, as well as their calm and confident teaching style that allows for us as students to get the hands on experience of working and building systems together.  This is the real deal.  Rigging for Rescue is an excellent organization that I would recommend to anyone with a good understanding of the basics of technical rope rescue and a solid skill base. I guarantee, no matter what you think you know, you will learn more from them and they will expand your horizons!
