USAF PJ with Julie, Mike and Don

What an incredible opportunity to work with some of the most talented guys in the Military, and at the same time, some of the best Instructors in the Country.  I just returned home from six weeks of amazing courses teaching with Abigail in Arizona for the Hualapai tribe, AzRA, Canyon Explorations, Salt River Runners, Mild to Wild , Wilderness Aware, and an assortment of passionate kayakers and private boaters.  This is my first class back in California, and I had the pleasure of working with both Mike Mather and Don Lester.

We spent the first two days of class in the water!  We swam, waded,  practiced fast access, throw bagging, stabilization lines, snag lines, simple cinches, entrapment drills, search, and scenario after scenario.  With such a fit and enthusiastic group, we braved two days of rain and spent a total of over 12 solid hours in the water.  Mike worked his magic disappearing acts, and the entrapment scenarios were as realistic as I believe it is possible to make them.

I learn something new in every class I teach; and this was no exception!  Some of the technique I re-remembered are the importance of that third or fourth point of contact wading, remembering to teach shallow swim strokes in shallow areas, and just how much you can get done in a day with a group of organized and focused students and Instructors.  It was an absolute pleasure to work with the PJ’s and with Mike and Don!

I look forward to the Spring and all it has to bring!
