Heat Wave!!! Fortunately we were in the water for much of the Kayak specific river rescue certification this weekend at Mother Lode River Center on The South Fork of the American River. Temps on saturday were upwards of 100 degrees F. But that didn’t slow us down too much. I had a group of private boaters, specifically kayakers that were looking to improve their Rescue Skills. We focused on rescue from a kayaker’s standpoint and explored the options and limitations of responding to a swiftwater incident with a kayak. Great Teamwork out there. Turns out it’s harder than you think to Pin a kayak on purpose, but I got my “beater boat” pinned for a handful of scenarios. Thanks for a good weekend, stay safe on the water! -ZB 6.10.13
